How Stuff Works

The PBA 3-roll aluminum profile bending machine is a 3-roll variable geometry bending machine. By reducing the distance between the bottom rolls, and by acting with the top roll “by pressing” on the initial part of the aluminum profiles, it is possible to minimize the straight part.

Curvature Accuracy

With digital technology, any curvature can be achieved.  But the curvature accuracy of bending aluminum profiles is affected by springback. 

Now, the focus is now on solving springback to achieve precise and consistent workpiece dimensions.

In mass aluminum bending production, the most important thing is to use the simplest operation to quickly resolve the springback in a very short time.

In the PBA’s unique operating system, solve the springback problem in two steps: input the actual radius to get the coefficient, then input the compensation coefficient and start production.

Note: Springback refers to a material’s ability to return to its original shape after being deformed when it attempts to return to its original shape at a certain angle after being bent.

Repeatability

When scaling up the production of aluminum profile bent parts, thousands of parts of the same design have consistent dimensions from one month to the next.

The default expectation for aluminum bending is production should provide interchangeable parts from batch to batch.

Notes: If driven by hydraulic cylinders, repeat positioning speed and accuracy( ≤0.02mm) are easily affected by temperature.

Cross Sectional Deviation

When aluminum profiles are bent, the inner radius undergoes compression while the outer side experiences tension. This forces the metal to ‘flow’ in a specific way under constant yield conditions into certain unconstrained areas, which is what causes cross-sectional deviation.

Crucial to prevent the deformation(cross-sectional deviation) caused by stress, especially when dealing with asymmetrical profiles. In the aluminum profile bending process, custom internal support tools are the best solution for addressing cross-sectional deviation, you need a reliable expert to design these tools.
